Study • Religious School

The primary mission of our religious school is to instill a love of Judaism in our children, develop a strong base for lifelong Jewish practice, and impart deep connections to the Jewish people in a warm, caring environment staffed by knowledgeable and dedicated educators.

This year's opening day was most successful and ended on a delicious note – a barbeque. Thanks to everyone who worked to make this a success.

Religious School Calendar

  • Pre-K/K to 2nd grade classes meet Sundays, 9:30-12:00.
  • Grades 3-6 classes meet Sundays, 9:30-12:00 and Tuesdays, 4:30-6.
  • Grade 7 classes meet Sundays, 9:30-12:00 and Tuesdays 3:45-5:15.

Our school consists of a unified curriculum begining at the pre-school level and continues through grade 7. Children in grades 8 - 12 continue their education by enrolling in Makom, a regional high school program through the Greater New Haven Federation. Our curriculum covers a broad range of topics from Jewish holidays and rituals to learning about Israel, and how to maintain a Jewish home. Our students learn the blessing for Shabbat and other Jewish holidays and life cycle events. Students in all grades learn Hebrew through songs, games and textbook readings.

Parents are encouraged to share their comments and observations with us, as we are always looking for ways in which we can improve. Additionally, parents are always welcome to sit in on classes. Many parents volunteer at our school. There are opportunities to chair special events, help out in the classroom, chaperone field trips and assist the teachers in other ways. We encourage parents to share their special talents with us.

Please call the Temple office, (203) 272-0037 or contact our Education Director, Jane Kessler at principal@tbdcheshire.org with any questions you may have about our Religious School program.
