Our Social Action Committee helps Temple Beth David to fulfill one of the tenets of our mission statement, working toward Tikkun Olam, "healing of the world". We do this by working on ongoing projects such as food drives, volunteering in the Downtown Evening Soup Kitchen, informing and educating our congregants about important issues which affect us as Jews and as citizens of the world. We help our youth to see the effect that their involvement with Social Action can achieve through B’nai Mitzvah individual and class projects, and programs involving the entire religious school community. Our committee also plans our Temple’s Mitzvah Day which is a highlight of the year. During Mitzvah Day we have over 100 Temple members go out into the community to volunteer for a variety of tasks to help those in need. Volunteers and new ideas for Social Action are always welcome. contact our Social Action Chairperson Teri Gallenstein at socialaction@tbdcheshire.org for more information.

Cheshire Interfaith Housing: Cheshire Interfaith Housing represents the various faith communities in Cheshire, working together to inform Cheshire residents about housing needs, and to advocate for and to develop decent affordable housing. CIH is a non-profit organization and under its bylaws includes two members of the Temple on its Board of Directors. In 1996, it completed building its first house on Waterbury Road utilizing almost exclusively volunteer workers. If you are interested in being a part of CIH, making a donation, or know of any inexpensive houses in need of purchase and rehabilitation or undeveloped plots of land for sale, please contact Andrew at 271-0478 or avanasas@cox.net
