Our Staff

Education Director: Jane Kessler

Mrs. Kessler has been our education director since 2000 and a member of Temple Beth David since 1977.

Jane was born and raised in New Haven, graduating from Hillhouse High School. Her parents were first generation Americans. Her family was a member of B’nai Jacob, where she received her Jewish education.

Jane graduated from Syracuse University with a degree in economics. She holds a masters degree in early childhood education, a sixth year in administration and supervision and a seventh year in professional teaching. She has spent her career teaching mathematics at the elementary, middle and high school levels. She also served as a principal at Bristol Central High School and City Hill Middle School in Naugatuck. She retired from public education in 2000 and has been teaching at Quinnipiac University since then.

Jane previously taught Sunday School at the temple from 1970 until 1972. Volunteering at the Temple in various capacities, Jane has served as education chairperson for two years prior to taking on the responsibility of Education Director.

When her children were older, she returned to full time teaching at Cheshire High, where among her many students were some whose children are now in our religious school.

Married for more than 40 years to Richard, a CPA, she has two grown children, daughter Marcy, son Seth and two grandsons, Miles and Evan. Today she spends her time tending to her two grandsons, teaching at QU, directing her tutoring business as well as serving as principal of the religious school. She enjoys working with the rabbi, our dedicated teaching staff, and the lay leadership of Temple Beth David. She also feels a personal satisfaction in helping to educate the next generation. One of her proudest moments is participating in the service for graduating high school seniors, kids she’d known since they started school and getting the chance to wish them well as they begin the next phase of their lives.

Jane is happy to talk with parents regarding placement in our Religious School. She can be reached at the temple at (203) 272-0037.
